OK.. So.. I’ve kinda been waiting to update this, because I wanted to see how the new job went before posting..

Last Friday, I had my first day at KMPH.. I’m part of the “Floor Crew” for their daily morning show, “Great Day”… For those who don’t know, Floor Crew basically entails operating cameras, running the teleprompter, directing the anchors and guests so they know when to speak, which camera to look at, etc..

The hours (4:45am until noon) really suck.. All the people there assured me “You don’t really get used to it, but you make it work”.. Which so far, is pretty true. Waking up at 3:30-3:45 to get ready is pretty rough, and I’ve been having to go to bed at like 8.. But it’s definitely one of those jobs that I wouldn’t mind sticking with, because it really doesn’t feel like work.. I enjoy doing it, and I think I’ll have everything down in the next week or so..

Every Friday, there are live bands on the show, and other days, there are random guests, chefs, etc.. doing random things, or cooking, or whatever, so I get to meet people from around the area, find out whats around town, etc.. Plus, I actually hear news and stuff that I normally wouldn’t hear otherwise, since I never really watched the news or read the newspaper.. Haha..

They’re already talking to me about getting me trained on Editing, and today, one of their graphics guys was asking me what my knowledge was, so that could be a possibility too. I don’t know if doing either of those would include a raise, but it couldn’t hurt! I’m willing to cross-train in anything they have to offer me..

Now, as far as my other job, my last post talked about me starting at Target.. Weeeeelll.. After like 3 days of working there, I quit. LOL.. I really didn’t like working there, plus, when I went to talk to them about changing my availability for Fox, they weren’t too willing to accomodate it, so yeah.. It didn’t work out.. But, the same day I decided to quit, I also got a call from Hollywood Video, to set up an interview.. And a few days later, I had a NEW 2nd job.. :-P I start off as a lowly Guest Service Representative, but they’re promoting me to a Shift Manager after 2 weeks, to give me time to get back into the swing of things.. (If you don’t know, I was a Shift Manager at a Hollywood Video back in MI)

I’m still not entirely sure what they’ll be paying me, but I do know it’ll be more than minimum wage (at least after the first 2 weeks).. The hours are still gonna suck, since some nights I’ll prolly have to work 5-Close, which will be some time between midnight and 1, but the store manager made it sound like she’d be able to be pretty flexible with me, and hopefully I’ll mostly only close on nights I don’t work at the TV station the next morning (Fri/Sat)..

So ultimately, I’m really pushing to get a car in the next week, and an apartment by the middle of November.. Even with 2 jobs, money is still gonna be tight, but I should be able to make it work..

I don’t know how exciting the job is gonna be, but it’s better than nothing!

And I don’t think they could have possibly scheduled me any more conveniently for my birthday.. I get off work at 2:30 on Saturday, and don’t have to be back until 6:15 on Monday, so from 9pm (Midnight where I was born) and after is fair game! :-P

Dunno what I’m gonna do yet, but hopefully it’ll be fun.. No getting ducktaped’d to my fridge this year, I hope! LOL.. I’ll let Chase fall asleep in the dirt again tho, if he wants to.

So, I had my interview with KMPH Fox 26 today.. And I think it went well!

Nothing is official yet, but they’re sending me for a drug test, and willing to pay for a background check and all that good stuff, so I think I might have it! I got to meet a bunch of people from the station, and even had a little talk with the co-hosts of the show I’d be working on..

The starting pay sucks, and the hours (4:45am to noon) are absolutely horrid, but it’s my foot in the door, and an amazing opportunity for me. They seemed pretty happy with my background computer knowledge and previous experiences from school, and with editing and whatnot..

I’m gonna have to go later today or tomorrow for the drug test, but I should know something some time next week..

*crosses his fingers*

I might have gone from 0 jobs to 2 jobs in 2 days. LOL..

Soo.. I finally had my 2nd.. 3rd.. 4th.. and 5th interviews at Target today.. And the end result? A seasonal position working in the Electronics department.. Pretty cool.. They said that it’ll start off as seasonal, but possibly be permanent based on performance and whatnot.. I was cool with that. Worst case scenario, it buys me a couple months to find something else..

Whats that? You’re asking how a part time seasonal position making minimum wage is going to allow me to get by, while living in California? Oh.. Yeah.. Thats right.. I forgot to mention..

A few days ago, FOX finally called back, offering me an interview for their Floor Crew position. :-D It’s definitely not locked in yet, but considering the pay (also minimum wage) and the hours (4:45am until noon), I doubt there are people lining up for this job.. LOL.. But the way I see it, is it’s my foot in the door, and if I’m getting off at noon, I’ll still be able to work the Target job no problem..

Working two jobs to just make it by is gonna suck, but I would imagine that after a while, both will consider me for raises, and maybe some day, the TV station will consider me for an editing position or something sweet..

We’ll see what happens! I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Soo.. I had my interview at the hotel a few days ago.. Unfortunately for me, they must have found someone with previous experience or something. I thought the interview went incredibly well, however they decided to go with someone else..

Luckily for me, about 10 minutes after I got home from that interview, I got a call from Target (Woohoo. Better than nothing, I guess), to set up an interview for Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.. So, today, I’m sitting here, as I have been the last few days, still poking around for jobs, but basically just waiting it out until Tuesday, hoping that interview goes well.. Then, about 10 minutes ago, I get a call from Target again, apparently not realizing I already had an interview set up, asking if I could come in tomorrow (Monday) at 2:30pm for an interview..

So, I was kinda confused.. I tell the guy I already had an interview set up, and he’s all like “Hmm, I wonder who called you”.. But either way, he’s like, “Well, if you already have an interview set up on Tuesday, maybe we can speed up this process. Why don’t you come in tomorrow anyways, and we’ll get your pre-paperwork done, and then if all goes well, you can probably come back in Tuesday morning for your second interview”..

So I really hope this works out. Definitely not counting any chickens before they hatch this time, but this could be my last chance to secure something before the deadline I set for myself..

Cross your fingers for me!
